London Triathlon At ExCel

E-mail Print PDF

Summer 2003: Held on the 2nd August 2003 for the first time at Excel in London's Docklands, it turned out to be the world's second largest Triathlon ever, with over 5000 competitors of which about 2500 were first time participants. The three parts of the event consisted of a 750m swim, a 20km cycle run and a 5km sprint.

Initiated by the Event Management Team, ExCel itself entered four teams of 3 competitors each, and they were all participating on behalf of Friends of Albert Schweitzer (UK) and the Dr. Schweitzer's Hospital Fund, raising the amazing sum of £1377 in sponsorship, which together with the Gift Aid amounts to £1724 - a most welcome sum in our first year of operation as FoAS(UK).
